Yellow Day Creativity and Bumble Bee Adventures
Colour Week brought plenty of fun to the classrooms, and Yellow Day was full of bright creativity. The Radiant Rainbows children embraced the theme by wearing yellow and diving into art experiences using sponges and paint.
Using different shaped sponges, the children experimented with texture and pattern while creating their own colourful artwork. This type of sensory art encourages creativity while also supporting fine motor development as children grip, stamp and explore different tools.
The learning did not stop there. The children also enjoyed singing their bumble bee song and going on a playful bee hunt around the room, turning the classroom into a buzzing world of imagination and discovery.
Activities like these bring together music, movement and creativity while helping children develop confidence in group settings and explore their surroundings with curiosity.
Learning Literacy Through Nature
In the Mighty Meteors room, literacy took on a creative twist as children explored their names using materials found in nature.
The educators collected sticks of different sizes from outside and brought them inside so the children could build letters. Each child used the sticks to create the shapes of the letters in their names, snapping and adjusting them until the letters began to appear.
This hands-on approach encourages children to think about letter shapes and sounds in a practical way. It also helps strengthen fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities as children manipulate and position each stick.
Nature-based learning activities like this connect children with the environment while supporting early literacy development in a playful and engaging way.
Green Day Stories and Creative Exploration
Green Day brought another opportunity for the children to explore learning through colour, stories and creative expression.
To celebrate the day, the children gathered together to read the beloved story Where Is The Green Sheep? This interactive story time encouraged children to listen carefully, engage with the narrative and participate in group learning.
After the story, the children brought the theme to life by painting their very own green sheep. Art activities like these help children develop imagination and storytelling skills while also building confidence in expressing their ideas.
Shared reading moments are also a wonderful way for children to develop language skills and build a lifelong love of books.
Discovering Nature With Tadpoles
One of the most exciting experiences this month came when the Radiant Rainbows received a very special delivery: their very own tadpoles.
As part of the children’s growing interest in animals, the educators introduced the tadpoles so the children could observe how they grow and change. Watching the tiny creatures move in their tank sparked plenty of curiosity and questions from the children.
This experience opened the door for discussions about frogs, life cycles and the natural world. The children were fascinated to learn that the tadpoles would eventually grow into frogs.
Hands-on nature experiences like this help children develop an early appreciation for science and the environment while encouraging observation and wonder.
