July at Little Miracles Point Clare had rockets, discos and dream catchers. And then, just when you thought it couldn’t get better, cucumber slices.
Here’s the month that was.
Building a Rocket Ship from Recycled Boxes
The Shining Stars kicked off July deep in their ‘Creative Minds’ project, building a rocket ship out of recycled cardboard.
The children stuck the boxes together with papier-mache, then had a ball decorating their creation with paint and loose materials.
Next up: flames at the bottom, windows on the sides and a cone on top. Watch this space, because this rocket is nearly ready for lift-off.
“Bambalence!” The Little Angels Talk Transport
Down in the Little Angels room, a new project rolled in: Transport, Construction and Creation.
It all started with the children’s fascination with the cars driving past each day. Educators have loved listening to the children’s voices, from “choo choo” to “car!” to the instantly iconic “bambalence”.
Through Loving Literacy activities like naming vehicles and mark-making on the fence, our littlest learners are building language, communication and memory recall, one vroom at a time.
Disco in the Afternoon
Mid-month, family grouping turned into a full-blown disco.
The music went on, the moves came out and our friends had an absolute blast dancing the afternoon away together.
It was so much fun watching how much the children enjoyed themselves, we just had to share a snapshot of the day.
Weaving Dream Catchers for Pyjama Week
Pyjama week arrived at LMPC, and the preschoolers marked it with a cosy craft: dream catchers.
Using paper plates and soft pastel wool, the children wove through the plates, giving their fine motor skills and creative thinking a lovely workout.
They loved chatting about how dream catchers work at home, and worked together beautifully, helping each other thread and weave. Sweet dreams guaranteed. <
Cucumber Eyes and Deep Breaths
And then came the moment of the month: pampered rest time.
In small groups, the children lay back on their beds with a warm face cloth on their foreheads, cucumber slices on their eyes and soothing music playing. The preschoolers absolutely loved being pampered and relaxing together.
Beneath the cuteness, something important was happening: the children were learning new ways to regulate their bodies and feelings. Wellness icons, every one of them.
Big Builds, Big Dances, Deep Breaths
July at Point Clare had a lovely rhythm to it.
There were bursts of big energy: rockets rising, discos raging, vehicles vrooming. And there were moments of calm: weaving wool, cucumber eyes and slow, soothing music.
Learning to go big and learning to slow down are both part of growing up. This month, our children practised both beautifully.
