Remember the garden our Terrigal friends have been tending? In July, it paid off.
Between a very first harvest, NAIDOC Week celebrations and a brand-new dive under the sea, here’s what the month held at Little Miracles Terrigal.
Our Very First Garden Harvest
July began with a milestone moment: our first garden harvest!
Gloves on and hats ready, the children pulled their homegrown carrots from the soil, leafy tops waving like trophies.
After weeks of planting, watering and watching, seeing the children’s faces as they held their very own carrots was pure joy. What an exciting day for our friends at Terrigal.
Stories in Coloured Sand
Next, our Little Angels strengthened their understanding of Aboriginal symbols.
Using symbol stamps, glue and bowls of coloured sand, the children created their own artworks in warm ochre, red and green.
With guidance from their educators, our clever little learners explored what each symbol represented. Culture, creativity and curiosity, all sprinkled together.
Hands Together for NAIDOC Week
The Mighty Meteors marked NAIDOC Week with a week full of fun and engaging experiences.
The children explored and learned more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, and created something special together: a banner covered in their handprints in black, yellow and red.
Standing proudly behind their artwork, our Meteors showed what celebrating culture and community looks like. What a snippet of fun it was.
Pick a Picture, Find a Sound
Over with the Amazing Asteroids, letters and sounds were the game of the day.
The children played ‘Pick a Picture’ using our Teach Your Toddler to Read board, matching pictures to letters as they went.
These TYTTR games build the children’s grapheme and phonemic awareness, one playful round at a time. Little readers in the making, right before our eyes.
Diving Under the Sea
To close out July, the Amazing Asteroids launched a brand-new interest project: Under the Sea!
Born from the children’s fascination with sea animals and mermaids, the project kicked off with whales, turtles and sharks swimming across ocean-blue fabric.
Watch this space for some awesome experiences relating to all things in the ocean. Something tells us this one’s going to make a splash.
Watching Things Grow
July at Terrigal was a month of things coming to fruition.
The carrots planted weeks ago finally came out of the ground. The children’s connection to culture deepened through NAIDOC Week and symbol art. Little readers grew their letter sounds, and a whole new ocean of curiosity opened up.
At Terrigal, nothing is rushed. Seeds are planted, tended and given time. And then, one exciting day, up come the carrots.
