June at Little Miracles Point Clare was full of busy little hands.
Hands stirring soup, stomping through paint, flipping phonics magnets and painting portraits. Here’s how the month unfolded.
Veggie Soup, Made from Scratch
Early in the month, the preschool room rolled up their sleeves and made vegetable soup together.
The children took turns washing and chopping the veggies, using a chopping mixer, a knife and a slicer with careful hands. They were so helpful and patient with one another, and their teamwork was amazing to see.
Mixing the soup was a clear favourite, and everyone did brilliant listening about the stove being hot. The children even talked about sustainability and where the scraps would go, with plans to plant the leftover seeds next.
One parent summed it up perfectly in the comments: her little one came home wanting to do cooking all over again.
Truck Tracks and Tiny Footprints
Mid-month, our Little Angels got a fun surprise outside.
A giant sheet of paper, pots of paint and a fleet of toy construction vehicles were waiting for them. The children drove trucks through the paint, creating colourful tracks alongside their own little footprints.
Along the way they named colours, spotted diggers and dump trucks, and practised curiosity, confidence and persistence. Messy? Absolutely. Worth it? Every splatter.
Flipping Magnets and Finding Sounds
Over in the Shining Stars room, little readers were hard at work.
Building on our Loving Literacy approach, the children used the Teach Your Toddler to Read board to explore their first set of letters: F, I, T, S, A and M.
They took turns flipping a magnet, finding the sound and singing the matching phrase, like “ants eat the apple, a, a, a”, before matching it to the letter. It’s phonics made playful, and these little learners were loving every flip.
Portraits of Our Wonderful Becky
To close out the month, the Amazing Asteroids picked up their paintbrushes for a very special subject.
Standing at their easels, the children created portraits of our wonderful Becky, with her smiling photo up on the wall as their guide.
Purple swirls, yellow splodges and lots of love went into every artwork. It was creativity and self-expression at its sweetest, and honestly, Becky has never looked better.
Real Skills, Little Hands
The thread running through June at Point Clare? The children were trusted with the real thing.
Real vegetables and real chopping. Real letters and sounds. Real paint, real easels and a real person to paint.
When children are given genuine experiences, they rise to them. And this month, our little ones rose beautifully.
